I have been working in real estate my whole professional life, from asset management to development to residential buying and selling.

After getting my MBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business, I  worked for First Pro Shopping Centres (Smart Centres) as an analyst. Through this experience, I realized the importance of rigorous analysis in decision making when choosing among real estate opportunities.

Following this, I took the position of National Property Investment Manager at Woolworth’s Australia, the largest retailer in the southern hemisphere. There I developed a real estate investment model that I used to evaluate development opportunities throughout Australia. The life cycle of decisions, importance of good judgement and an environment of full accountability for outcomes groomed me for a move into property funds management at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Colonial First State Global Asset Management) where I was part of a three-person team that managed a $2.3 Billion shopping centre portfolio.

While I enjoyed the warm weather and beaches, I wanted to return to family and friends in Canada. I returned and joined Deloitte Real Estate Advisory as a manager to consult on a combination of public and private sector real estate matters for clients including The City of Toronto, The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan’s Cadillac Fairview Properties, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and The National Capitol Commission.

Throughout my career I have enjoyed the personal touch of dealing with people face to face and providing sound and thoroughly researched advice, which is why I enjoy working in residential real estate.

My personal involvement in real estate has included the purchase, redevelopment and sale of a waterfront property, the ownership and management of a second waterfront income property, extensive investing in Canadian real estate investment trusts (REITs), and second mortgage lending as a principal. Not only am I used to making decisions in complex real estate situations, I do it regularly where my own resources are at risk.
